Lanman Funeral Home Staff
Cherokee-Funeral service for W.F. “Bill” Gerber, age 89, will be Saturday,
December 8, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. at the United Methodist Church in Cherokee with
Rev. Jim Edmison and Rev. Tom Cooksey officiating.  Burial will be at Cherokee
Municipal Cemetery with arrangements by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. of
Cherokee.  Viewing will be Friday from 9:00 A.M. until 7:00 P.M. with the family
present from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.  The casket will be open
after the service at the church.  

Bill was born on July 18, 1918 in Cherokee to Glenn and Edna Gerber and died
Tuesday, December 4, 2007 at Greenbriar Nursing Home in Enid.  He grew up in the
Byron community and graduated from Byron High School in 1937.  On July 19, 1941
he married Helen Goeken in the Cherokee Methodist Church.  He enlisted to
serve his country in the United States Navy in 1944 and spent his military career in
Guam.  After his discharge he and Helen moved to Cherokee where they farmed
and ran the Gerber Dairy.  In 1958 they moved to Denver, Colorado where he
owned Gerber Fountain Equipment Company.  Bill and Helen retired in 1982 and
moved to Cherokee where he resided until his death.  Bill was a member of the
United Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star, Scottish Rites in Denver,
Colorado and was a 32nd Degree Mason.  

Surviving are two daughters, Jean Carpenter and husband, Don of Cherokee and
Gelnda Hachenberger and husband, Don of Steamboat Springs, Colorado; one
sister, Mary Jane Evans of Cherokee; two brothers, Glenn Gerber of Lehi, Utah
and Robert E. Gerber of Vancouver, Washington; nine grandchildren, Susan
Yarborough Teresa Yarborough, Annalisa and Tim Roggow, James Carpenter, Jeff
and Carol Carpenter, Lance and Ingrid Carpenter, Tammy Duncan, Kristen and
Peter Colangelo, D.J. Hachenberger; eighteen great-grandchildren, one great-
great-grandchild; one sister-in-law, Ada Goeken and many friends and relatives.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Helen; his parents; one brother and one
great-grandchild, Justin Snider.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the Cherokee Library
Memorial Fund – Pioneer Spirit Foundation.
