Cherokee-The celebration of life service for Helen Elizabeth Gerber, age 86, will be Friday, November
9, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. at the United Methodist Church in Cherokee with Rev. Tom Cooksey and Tim
Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. of Cherokee.  

Helen Elizabeth Gerber was born on November 7, 1920 on a farm west of Cherokee to Jacob and
Elizabeth Goeken and died on November 2, 2007 at Integris Bass Baptist Heath Center in Enid.  She
attended elementary school at Ingersoll and graduated from Cherokee High School in 1938.  In 1941
she married Bill Gerber at the Cherokee Methodist Church.  While Bill served his country in the
United States Navy, Helen lived in St. Louis and moved to Cherokee after he was deployed to Guam.  
During this time she worked as a seamstress at the Cherokee Brassier Factory and later moved to
Wichita, Kansas where she worked at Beech Aircraft Factory.  In 1949 Helen moved to Cherokee
where she and Bill farmed and ran the Gerber Dairy.  In 1958 they moved to Denver, Colorado where
she worked at Samsonite until her retirement in 1982.  They returned to Cherokee in 1984 where
she resided until her death.  Helen was a member of the United Methodist Church, United Methodist
Women, Tuesday Morning Bible Study, Order of the Eastern Star, JUG Pitch Club, Six Canasta Club
and the Birthday Club.

Survivors include her husband, Bill of the home; two daughters, Jeanne Carpenter and (Don) of
Cherokee and Glenda Ann Hachenberger and (Don) of Steam Boat Springs, Colorado; nine
grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren;  one great-great grandchild; one sister-in-law, Ada
Goeken and many other relatives and friends.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Hank, Alfred and Richard Goeken; one
sister, Ruth Ann Bates and one great-grandchild, Justin Snyder.

Visitation at the funeral home will be Wednesday from 9:00 A.M. until 5:00 P.M., Thursday from 9:00
A.M. until 7:00 P.M. with the family being present 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M., Friday from 9:00 A.M. until
11:00 A.M. and at the church after the service.

Memorials may be made to Kids Club (After School Ministry) through the funeral home.
