the Cimarron Public School Gymnasium in Lahoma at 11:00 A.M with Manuel Beckner and Jason
Funeral Home, Inc. of Helena.
Braden Chance Newton was born on July 9, 1984 in Cleo Springs to Carl Newton and Celeesa
Beckner Newton and passed away November 24, 2007 at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Enid
from an accidental injury. Braden grew up in the Ames area and graduated from Cimarron High
School in May of 2002 where he was very accomplished and active as a leader in athletics, FFA and
student activities. After attending Northwestern Oklahoma State University, Enid campus, he
answered the call of Uncle Sam and entered the United States Marine Corps on September 15,
2003. As reported in a January 21, 2006 article in the Enid News and Eagle, Braden stated, “A lot of
guys do nothing. I wanted to do my part to help.” On November 8, 2004 Braden’s 1st Battalion, 3rd
Marines commenced Operation Phantom Fury, a battle against terrorist insurgents in Fallujah, Iraq
to quell resistance by terrorist insurgents through hand to hand street fighting that ensued for
several weeks with about 50% battalion casualties. Following Iraq, Braden trained for Mountain
Warfare and began a tour of duty in the Kunar Province of Afghanistan in support of Operation
Enduring Freedom. Braden was honorably discharged on September 14, 2007.
Braden is survived by his wife, Sarah and precious four month old daughter, Madalynn; his mother,
Celeesa Newton of Enid; his father, Carl Newton and step-mother, Pam of Cleo Springs; one sister,
Catessa Tomlinson of Edmond; brothers, O’Ryan Newton of Yukon, Kristan Newton of Ames,
Chadrick Newton of Oklahoma City; step-sister, Jona Eastman of Jenks; step-brother, Justin
Nightengale of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina; his paternal grandmother, Jennie Newton of Cleo
Springs and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, C.A. Newton and maternal grandparents,
Fenton and Dorothy Beckner.
Donations may be made in Braden’s memory to a college fund for his daughter, Madalynn, the Ames
Volunteer Fire Department or the Jaynes Kennedy American Legion Post of Ames through the
