| Okeene-Funeral service for Merlyn Gene Schultz, age 69, will be Thursday, January 3, 2008 at the Okeene United Methodist Church at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. George Rowe officiating. Burial will follow at Cottonwood Cemetery at Hitchcock with arrangements by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. Viewing will be Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. until 6:00 P.M. and Thursday from 9:00 A.M. until 11:30 A.M. at the funeral home and at the church after the service. Merlyn was born on January 3, 1938 in Okeene to Gilman Lee Schultz and Elva “Sue” Herretta Blehm Schultz and passed from this life on December 31, 2007 at his home in Okeene. He was a retired United States Air Force Tech Sergeant, serving from 1955 until 1978. He was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and the National Defense Service medal. On July 17, 1964 he married Louise Thompson in Watonga. He lived in the Okeene area almost thirty years, where he worked as a propane service technician after his retirement from the U.S. Air Force. Merlyn was a member of the United Methodist Church in Okeene and the VFW. Merlyn was survived by his wife, Louise of Okeene; two children, Martin Schultz and wife, Janell of Okeene and Stacy Haag of Okeene; eight grandchildren, McKyla and Chaunsie Gallo, Cheyenne and Breanne Haag, Micky Schultz, Taylor and Trevin Maurer and Ryan Schultz. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Nancy, his parents and grandparents. Memorials may be given to the church through the funeral home. |
