There are fond memories of your family during the years you lived in Minneola and while we were classmates. 1957 was probably the last time we saw each other but I still remember starting school together. My parents have both passed. My four sons (two married)are in TX and KS (youngest at KSU). I have a private practice in mental health in Dodge City and live there in the home my parents built after leaving the farm in 1976. Have you retired in Adams, TN? Thinking of you during your loss. | TOPEKA-Mollie Elaine Creech, formerly of Kiowa, was born on January 5, 1920 in Ness City, Kansas and passed away May 21, 2008 in Topeka, Kansas at the age of 88 years 4 months and 16 days. She was the fifth child of Archie Edmund and Bess (Elliott) Gibbens. Elaine attended rural schools in Ness County and Hodgeman County, Kansas. While she attended high school in Spearville, Kansas, she lived with her maternal grandparents after high school graduation in 1938. Elaine attended and received her associates degree from Dodge City Junior College. Elaine moved to Ada, Oklahoma, to live with her sister and brother-in-law, Muriel and Walter Brink, and helped care for their two daughters while attending East Central College for one and a half years. After the outbreak of World War II, at the suggestion of her brother, Elliott, Elaine moved to Wichita where she worked for Beech Aircraft for two and a half years. When her fiancée was furloughed home after three years in the Pacific Theatre, she and Harold LaVern Creech were married in Dodge City, Kansas on July 23, 1944. They made their first home in Texas for Harold’s final year in the service. The couple returned to Minneola, Kansas, to the farm where Harold was Elaine excelled as a seamstress and worked out of the home for 37 years. Her family and friends remember her gentle, loving nature, generous spirit, tremendous baking and sewing skills, and general creativity. Elaine could see possibilities enabling her to “make something out of nothing.” She had a special fondness for kittens in particular and puppies in general. Elaine was an active member of the Kiowa United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, VFW Auxiliary, and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed her years in the Farmerette Club and the monthly luncheon of the I.C.R. (I Can’t Remember) Club. Preceding Elaine in death were her parents, infant sister and husband; her three brothers, John, Elliott, and Robert, her sister, Muriel and son-in-law, Ron Bush. Elaine is survived by her daughter, Laverne Elaine Bush of Alva, Oklahoma, and two sons and their wives, Larry and Linda Creech of Adams, Tennessee and Kevon and Denise Creech of Auburn, Kansas, six grandchildren; Stacey and Jason Potts of Owensboro, Kentucky, Aaron Bush of Honolulu, Hawaii, Casey Creech of Alexandria, Virginia, Christina Creech of Auburn, Alabama, Ryan Creech of Topeka, Kansas and Tyler Creech of Auburn, Kansas, her great granddaughter, Hope Elaine Ramming, added special joy to Elaine’s last four years. Other survivors include three nieces, one nephew, three sisters-in-law; Lodema Wright, Madeline and George Hilderbrant and Leora Creech. Funeral service will be on Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at 1 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Kiowa with Pastor Wayne Stephens. Interment will take place in the Riverview Cemetery where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband. Arrangements are by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. of Kiowa, Kansas.
