| Cherokee-Funeral service for Ada Belle Goeken, 85, will be Sunday, December 28, 2008 at 2:30 P.M. at First Baptist Church in Cherokee with Rev. Tom Cooksey officiating. Burial will be at the Apostolic Cemetery near Burlington with arrangements by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. of Cherokee. Memories may be from 2:30 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. with the family present from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home and after the service at the church. Ada Belle Goeken was born on January 11, 1923 to M.A. Kisling and Anna Diel Kisling on the family farm near Burlington and passed from this life on December 24, 2008 at Kiowa District Hospital in Kiowa, Kansas. Her family was of German descent from Russia. Ada graduated from business college at Elgin, Illinois. She married Henry Goeken on October 4, 1952 at Cherokee at Rev. Keller's house. Ada worked at the Hildred Wright Abstract Office in Cherokee, at the Achenbach Memorial Hospital in Hardtner, Kansas for eight years, at the Cherokee Sales Company for thirty-two years and the Santa Fe Railroad for eight years. Ada lived in this area all of her life. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cherokee, a member of the WMV, the pitch club and the Farmerettes. When Hank’s garden produced abundantly, Ada enjoyed canning the excess. Ada was preceded in death by her parents, M.A. and Anna Kisling; her husband, Henry Goeken; eight brothers and sisters, George Kisling, Marie Schurter, Elmer Kisling, Edna Reed, Ralph Kisling, Ruth Schurter, Mabel Bangerter and John Kisling. Survivors include two sons, Mark Goeken and wife, Margie of Denver, Colorado and Gary Goeken and wife, Tamara of Cherokee; one brother, Frank Kisling of Burlington; nine grandchildren, Stacy Goeken of Houston, Texas, Tracy Goeken of Houston, Texas, Troy Goeken of Denver, Colorado, Ty Goeken of Arizona, Ky Goeken of Denver, Colorado, Kelly Goeken of Denver, Colorado, Bethany Goeken of Denver, Colorado, Jacob Goeken of Cherokee, Alison Goeken of Cherokee and seven great grandchildren. Memorials may be given to First Baptist Church or First Baptist Church Youth Group through the funeral home. |
