| Cherokee – Armister Leroy Hess, died March 17, 2008, after a brief illness. Services will be held on Friday, March 21, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. at the Driftwood Christian Church with Rev. Dave Atzenweiler officiating. Burial will be at the Mennonite Cemetery near Manchester. Arrangements are by Lanman Funeral Home Inc. of Cherokee. Armister was born November 11, 1932 on Armistice Day to Oswald and Sarah (McClaflin) Hess. He was one of six siblings. He began his childhood in a dugout until the family home was built nine miles east and two north of Byron. There he attended Amorita Schools, graduating on May 15, 1950. In 1949 he began working for the Schoeb Ranch later known as the Alfalfa County Feeders. After being honorably discharged from the U.S. Army where he was stationed at Ft. Bliss on the Nike Guided Missile Project in 1955, he returned home and was united in marriage to Betty Lou Gallentine on April 6, 1957. They lived on a farm where they made their home north of Cherokee. To this marriage two children were born, Shelley and Millard. He took the lord into his heart and was baptized June 25, 1961. In 1995 Betty Lou passed away after 38 years of marriage. He enjoyed managing his small herd of cattle and fishing on the Salt Fork with grandkids. He will be best remembered as a hard worker, loving husband and father and will be deeply missed. His parents, two brothers, Walter Hess and James Hess, his sister, Augusta Cox and his beloved wife, Betty Lou Hess preceded him in death. He is survived by his daughter, Shelley Burney and husband, Robert; a son, Millard Hess; two brothers, Glenn Hess and wife, Patricia, Clarence Hess and wife, Glennis; two grandchildren, Sarah Green, Chris Green and wife, Daree; two great- grandchildren, Michael and Treavor Green; two sisters-in-law, Jaralyn Hess and Mary Hess and many nieces and nephews. |
