| W.W. “Buck” Nease Mr. Nease was born on July 14, 1919 on the family farm southeast of Lawton, Oklahoma to John and Goldie Nease and passed away Friday, March 7, 2008. He graduated from Lawton High School at age 15. While attending high school, he worked at a country store and at the age of 19 he purchased and operated another country store located between Lawton and Duncan. He later purchased a truck and delivered gasoline and oil to area farmers. Mr. Nease was among the first selectees of Comanche County to enter the United States Army on March 31, 1941. He was stationed at Ft. Sill where he was assigned to the 53rd Field Artillery. Two months later, his unit was transferred to Leonard Wood, Missouri at which time the base was being constructed. His unit was transferred from Ft. Leonard Wood to Yuma, Arizona in December 1942, then to San Luis Obispo, California in March 1943 for special training before going overseas. Mr. Nease was Tech Sergeant trained as a forward artillery computer/spotter. In July 1943 they shipped out of San Francisco for Hawaii where they defended Pearl Harbor until January 1944 when they moved on to New Guinea in the Pacific Theatre. Their first baptism of fire was at Mafin Bay, that they secured. They then moved to Cape Sanspor and secured that area. They moved on to the Philippines on December 26, 1944 where they covered Central Luzon, the Bataan Peninsula, and later Northern Luzon at the time of the Japanese Surrender. Mr. Nease returned to Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas and was Honorably Discharged the Tuesday before Thanksgiving 1945. Mr. Nease was employed as the personnel manager for U.S. Gypsum at Southard, Oklahoma from January 2, 1946 until December 1948 when he purchased the Edward A. Barnes Insurance Agency in Okeene. He owned and operated the Nease Insurance Agency until his death. Mr. Nease married Ola Barnes on September 14, 1947. They had two children, Jamie and Patricia. Mr. Nease served as the Town Clerk of Okeene from 1947 until 1980. He was a past president and active member of the Okeene Kiwanis, Okeene Chamber of Commerce and Okeene Jaycees. He was a member of the Okeene Roundup Club and was known for leading parades with the American Flag on his Tennessee Walker, Tony. As a Jaycee, he was among the founding fathers of the Okeene Rattlesnake Hunt. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Award in 1956 and the Distinguished Citizens Award in 1983 by the Okeene Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the Okeene Masonic Lodge and a 32nd Degree Mason at the Guthrie Consistory. Mr. Nease had a paid for life membership in the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He served as Adjutant, Service Officer and Commander of the American Legion for many years. Mr. Nease is survived by his daughter, Patricia Nease Bruster and her husband, Harry of Norman; grandsons, Adam Bruster of Dallas, Texas and David Bruster of Norman; his daughter-in-law, Maria Nease of Okeene; granddaughter, Heidi Nease of Okeene; grandsons, Eric Nease of Lafayette, Louisiana, Cody Nease of Stillwater, Jeffrey Nease and wife, Amy of Drummond; great granddaughter, Hannah Mackenzie Nease of Drummond and great grandson, James Daniel Nease of Lafayette, Louisiana. Mr. Nease was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Thelma and Ruth; one brother, Floyd; his wife, Ola and their son, Jamie. Pallbearers are grandsons, Adam Bruster, David Bruster, Jeffrey Nease, Eric Nease, Cody Nease and nephews, Harold Barnes, Doug Barnes and John Hippard. |
