| KIOWA-Patricia Louise (‘Pat’) Ridgway, 74, was born to Elsie (Whelan) Pelzl and Alphons J. Pelzl on December 13 1933 in Sharon, Kansas at the home of her maternal grandparents, Frank & Virginia Whelan, and passed away suddenly and quite unexpectedly on Tuesday morning, January 29, 2008 at her daughter’s home in Texas. Pat was raised in Sharon and Wichita and graduated from Sharon High School in the Class of 1951. Patsy married Jimmie David Ridgway, the love of her life, on November 18, 1950, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Sharon, Kansas. Shortly after Jim returned from his military service in post-war Germany he and Pat moved to Kiowa where they raised their four children and together opened and operated the Drive-In Dairy Bar during the fifties, sixties and seventies. From 1984 through 2000 Pat and Jim lived in Katy, Texas before returning to Kiowa in 2001. Pat was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years, Jim, who passed away on August 2, 2007 and her parents, Elsie and Al Pelzl. She will be deeply and forever missed by her survivors: son Brock of Houston, Texas; daughter and son-in-law Cheryl and Daniel Kidd of Katy, Texas, son and daughter-in-law Bradley and Kathleen Ridgway of Houston, Texas; son and daughter-in-law Brett and Connie Ridgway of Hazelton, and grandchildren, Cory Kidd, Christa (Kidd) Puckett, Casey Kidd, and Blake, Grant, Holly and Bryce Ridgway, and two great grandchildren, Emma and Lucas Puckett, Pat’s only sister; Beverly Fiegel and her two paternal aunts; Kathryn Wilson and Elfreda Hall. Pat took tremendous pride in the accomplishments of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and her later years were filled with the joys they brought to her. Pat was the life and soul of her family and she became well known to the people of Kiowa as a hard- working woman who gave much to her family, business, community and church. In addition to being a wonderful mother and devoted wife, she stepped into the role of caretaker many times during her life. During her high school years she cared for her grandparents and since 1999 she cared for Jim which included three 120-mile round trips per week for his dialysis treatments. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life and she was a devout member of St. John the Apostle in Kiowa, and St. Bartholomew in Katy, Texas. Rosary will be Friday, February 1, 2008 at 7:00 P.M. and Funeral service will be Saturday, February 2, 2008 at 12:00 P.M. both at St. Boniface Catholic Church with Father John Strasser officiating with burial immediately thereafter at the Attica Cemetery where she will be laid to rest next to her husband, Jim, and his parents. Arrangements are by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. of Kiowa, Kansas. Memorials may be made to the St. Boniface Catholic Church, National Kidney Foundation or the American Heart Association through the funeral home. |
