| Cherokee-Funeral service for Duane L. Schanbacher will be Tuesday, November 11, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. at First Christian Church in Cherokee with Dr. Ron Hansen officiating. Burial will follow at Cherokee Municipal Cemetery with arrangements by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. of Cherokee. Viewing will be Sunday from 2:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. and Monday 10:00 A.M. until 7:00 P.M. with the family present from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home and at the church before the service. Duane was born on October 26, 1923 in Garber to Murray Guy Schanbacher and Edna Mae Wade Schanbacher and passed from this life on November 6, 2008 at Integris Bass Baptist Medical Center in Enid. He married Verna Ruth Farabee on April 5, 1947 in Enid. After they were married they moved from Idaho to Oklahoma in 1950 and lived in this area until now. Duane was a member of the First Christian Church in Cherokee, a 32nd Degree Mason, a board member at the Coop, a church camp member in Guthrie, a youth sponsor and an Elder of the First Christian Church in Cherokee, recently an Elder Emeritus. His church and church activities were his passion, and he served on numerous church committees. His survivors include his wife, Verna Ruth of Cherokee; four children, Dr. Bruce D. Schanbacher and wife, Nancy of Kearney, Nebraska, Susan Peterson and husband, Mark of Bonney Lake, Washington, Steven Schanbacher and wife, Christy of Cherokee and Brenda Kistler and husband, Ken of Andover, Kansas; thirteen grandchildren, Craig and Kim Schanbacher, Brian Schanbacher, Kyle and Mary Schanbacher, Colin and Shana Peterson, Adam Peterson, Bryce and Jessica Schanbacher, Jerod Schanbacher, Logan Schanbacher, Reed and Hailey Sperry, Tyler and Corinne Sperry, Kayci Sperry, Mia Sperry and Jordan Kistler; five great grandchildren, Emily, Ellie and Jacob Schanbacher, Carson Schanbacher, Kaitlyn Schanbacher; one sister, Lois Walker of Cherokee; two brothers, Lyle Schanbacher and wife, Doris of Cherokee and Dr. Gene Schanbacher and wife, Priscilla of Murray, Kentucky. Duane was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Delbert and Bobby and one sister, Hazel Means. Memorials may be given to the Christian Church Building Fund or the Cherokee High School Track Fund through the funeral home. |
