Condolence may be shared with the family at www.lanmanmemorials.com Rusty was born in Woods County, Oklahoma on July 15, 1937 to Olen and Martha Crowl Sternberger. He grew up in the Hardtner area and graduated from Hardtner High School in 1955. He attended Emporia State before joining the United States Air Force. On July 31, 1957 he and Chonita McCune were united in marriage and to that union three children were born. Rusty was a retired farmer/rancher, he and his wife, Chonita owned and operated The Clothes Horse stores in Kiowa and Alva, Oklahoma for 15 years, he was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge, the Mayor of Hardtner, and served on the Hardtner City Council. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Chonita of Hardtner, three sons; Tony Lee Sternberger of Farmington, New Mexico, Thomas Alan Sternberger and wife, Sherrie of Wichita, Kansas, Tracy Leon Sternberger of Burrton, Kansas, two grandchildren; Justin W. Sternberger and wife, Kate of Lincoln, Kansas, Sarah N. Sternberger of Independence, Kansas, one great-grandchild; Jesse J. Sternberger, many other friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association through the funeral home. Visitation will be Sunday, June 8, 2008 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. |
