Cherokee-Funeral service for Ruth Elberta Hibbard Vawter, age 88,  will be
Monday, April 28, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. at First Baptist Church in Cherokee, Oklahoma
with Rev. Tom Cooksey officiating.  Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery
near Jet with arrangements by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. of Cherokee. Viewing
will be Saturday from 1:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. and Sunday 2:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M.
with the family present from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M.  

Ruth was born on November 22, 1919 to Roy O. Hibbard and Maggie Hiner
Hibbard in their farm home near Waldron, Kansas and died on April 24, 2008 at
Share Nursing Home in Alva.  She graduated from Anthony High School in
Anthony, Kansas in 1937, attended Business College in Wichita, Kansas and
worked for Farmers Oil Company in Anthony.  On June 29, 1952 she married Ray
Vawter and moved to the farm in the Vining Community near Jet, Oklahoma until
2003 when she moved to Cherokee.  She was a faithful member of the Vining
Community Church.

She is survived by her two daughters, Marilyn Friend and husband, John of
Freedom, Oklahoma and Janet Maltbie and husband, James of Burlington,
Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Corey Friend and wife, Emalee, Royce Friend and
wife, Emily, Sarah Beeley and husband, Roy, William Maltbie and Jenna Maltbie;
five great grandchildren, Jordan and Jasper Beeley, Lizzie and Adelyn Friend
and Katie Friend; one sister, Hazel Cantrell and husband, Clifford “Pete” of
Attica, Kansas.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ray in 1969 and two
sisters, Helen Stark and Kathryn Ellen.  

Memorials may be given to Nescatunga Fire Department or Vining Community
Church youth Group through the funeral home.
