He was alway interesting to visit with as he had lots of stories about the early days in Alfalfa County and the Cherokee area. We really missed him when the time came that he could no longer come to town. We know he missed coming in as he was there every morning. When I wss hired as Librarian he said "That is kind of a old ladies job isn't it?" We had a good laugh over that and from that time on I called him an old man and he would get a grin on his face. That is a memory I will never forget. |
| Cherokee-Graveside service for Everett L. Diel, 89, will be Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. at Cherokee Municipal Cemetery with Don Loomis officiating. Arrangements are by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. of Cherokee. The memorial book may be signed at the funeral home on Monday from 9:00 A.M. until 6:00 P.M. The casket will not be open. Memories may be shared with the family at www.lanmanmemorials.com. Everett was born on July 29, 1919 in Ingersoll to Dan Diel and Emma Mae Matson Diel and passed from this life on February 14, 2009 at Share Medical Center in Alva. He was a resident of this area all of his life except when Everett served in the U.S. Army. Everett was self-employed as a farmer, including cattle and Alfalfa hay. He loved to garden, hunt and fish. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, LaVera Hemple and Wanda Crosswhite and one brother, Kenneth Diel. Everett is survived by one brother, Denny Diel and wife, Paige of Burlington; four nephews, Reggie Diel and wife, Kay of Cherokee, Terry Diel and wife, Toni of Omaha, Nebraska, Kelly Diel and wife, Deloris of Wichita, Kansas and Sammy Foster and wife, Carrie of Claremore; two nieces, Paula Woodard of Dallas, Texas and Carolyn Chastain and husband, Charles of Oklahoma City. Memorials may be given to Alfalfa County Museum through the funeral home. |
