| Matilda L. “Tillie” Diel went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 5, 2009, at the Kiowa Hospital District Manor at age 87 years. She was born October 2, 1922, in Gridley, Kansas, to Jacob and Katie Raaf. Tillie was raised on a farm near Gridley, Kansas with her seven siblings. She attended a small, one room country school, Errett School District #46 through eighth grade, walking a mile and half each day to school. She attended high school in Gridley, graduating in 1940. Tillie was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church. On April 26, 1942, she married George Marvin Diel in Eureka, Kansas. After she married, Tillie moved to the Burlington, Oklahoma area where she and Marvin farmed and raised their family. Tillie spent endless hours cooking, gardening, canning, and just doing what needed to be done on the farm. She took many meals to the field during harvest . She helped with the American Red Cross Blood Drives, FFA and 4-H Club activities, and church dinners. She was a longtime member of the Happy Day Club. Survivors include one son, Don Diel of Alva, Oklahoma; two daughters, Catherine Rose of Mission, Texas and Georgia Diel of Wichita, Kansas; daughter-in-law, Delores Diel of Kiowa, Kansas; ten grandchildren, Heath and Lee Diel of Great Falls, Montana, Nick and Charity Holcombe of Albertville, Alabama, Ben and Miranda Thomsen of Spanish Forks, Utah, Ryan and Kristen Anderson of Alva, Oklahoma, Allyson and Brandon Hicks of Alva, Oklahoma; John, Bryant and Cameron Diel of Kiowa, Kansas; Jacob and Lucas Diel of Wichita, Kansas; six great grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives. Tillie was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a brother, William Raaf; sisters, Anna Raaf, Mary Raaf, Hannah Grimm, Caroline Banwart, Frieda Lusk and Ida Mitchell; a son, Rex Diel; and a son-in-law, Robert Rose. Funeral service will be Thursday, October 8, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Apostolic Christian Church in Kiowa with Ron Allenbach and Jeff Bahr officiating. Burial will follow in the Apostolic Cemetery at Burlington, Oklahoma. Arrangements are by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. of Kiowa, Kansas. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.lanmanmemorials.com The casket will be open at the funeral home on Wednesday, October 7, 2009 from 10:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and at the church before and after the service.
