Comments = Mac had many sides. The side I knew was thoughtful and kind. He would go out of his way
to always greet me, whether in Yur Place, at Northwestern's Homecoming, or just a chance meeting in
Hardtner. He would bring newspaper clippings he thought we might be interested in to my parents'
house and leave them in the door. Thank you Mac for your kindness and may you rest without
suffering!

Comments = Mac became part of our family as did many in that part of the world.  He worked for my
dad hauling hay and spent lots of time out at the house. Mac didn,t always fit into the rest of the world,
but who does? I am glad that he is part of my story. Dad always seemed to take of people like Mac, and
taught us kids to do the same. See you in the next one Mac where there is none of this, only good in all.

Mac was born on November 23, 1939 at Alva, Oklahoma and passed from this life
on February 14, 2009 at his home in Hardtner, Kansas.  He spent his childhood on a
farm six miles northwest of Hardtner and attended school at Hardtner, graduating
with the class of 1957.  He went on to graduate from NWOSU in Alva.  Mac taught
school at Isabel for a few years.  He decided he would rather be outside in the
sunshine and fresh air and went back to farming hauling hay bales for farmers in
the area.

He was a life-long resident of Barber County and thus became a historian for the
county, remembering and relating many things that others had forgotten.

Mac loved to browse through his seed catalogs deciding what new to plant in the
spring.  His love  of gardening was shown by sharing his bounty with whomever
stopped by.  His specialties were tomatoes, squash and cucumbers.  Most likely he
would also send some fresh eggs with you.

Mac knew where the best sand plum thickets could be found and enjoyed picking
these for sand plum jelly.   His buckets of bright red fruit will be missed by many.

Before his illness he was always in line at Kiowa to give blood to the Red Cross
when they arrived.  He gave over 16 gallons, which amounts to 128 trips.

Mac enjoyed all kinds of music, but especially loved church hymns.  He spent many
happy moments playing piano and organ.  His special love was his dogs and
walking with them.  Three of his favorite dogs were at his side at his death.  Mac
remained optimistic about his health to the end and never complained about the
long battle he fought so bravely.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mick Ewing and Erma Sterling.

Mac leaves to mourn his passing one brother, Burke Ewing and wife, Marilyn of
Amarillo, Texas; one sister, Anne Barber and husband, Ray of Wichita; one niece,
Kim Bannon; one nephew, Mark Ewing and wife, Andrea; two great nephews, Brett
and Brock Ewing; Uncle Bob and Aunt Sue Sterling of Hardtner; Aunt Louise Ewing
of Hardtner; cousins, Steve, Sydney and Sam Sterling and Gary, Mike and Steve
Ewing and many friends.
