Comments = I am very saddened to hear of Buddy Ray's passing.  He was a special man who always
made me feel good.  Every single time that I saw him he would tell me "I believe you get prettier
everytime I see you!"  I can hear it clearly as I think about him today.  My thoughts are prayers are

Comments = I am deeply sorry for your lose, Buddy was a special guy.   He had the driest human of
anyone I have ever known.  He was very personable always a positive.  I know he liked his beer, but
who doesn't have vices. I will miss him at the 4th of July; he always stopped to help in his capacity at

Comments = Sam, I was shocked to read that Buddy had passed away.  I am so sorry for your loss.  I
don't know if you remember me or not, but we were friends in high school and I lived in Kiowa.  You
were a good friend and I knew Buddy running around with all of the gang.  He was such much fun to be
around and will be truly missed.  May God give you and your family strength and some peace

HARDTNER-Buddy Raymond Grant, was born on February 15, 1949 in Hardtner,
Kansas and departed this life on his 60th birthday, Sunday, February 15, 2009 near
Hardtner, Kansas.   Buddy attended school at Capron, Oklahoma through the 4th
grade, moved to Hardtner in 1958 and graduated with the class of 1966.  Following
graduation, Buddy went to Northwestern State University for a year and farmed for
Grant Roberson.  He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1968 and served aboard
the USS Bonhomme Richard.  He was a member of the crash crew working on the
flight deck in the Tonkin Gulf off the coast of South Vietnam.  He was also
stationed at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and Pensacola Naval Air Station.  After his
discharge, Buddy returned to Hardtner and went to work with his dad in the
construction business.  He married Liz Blahut of Sharon on June 14, 1979.  He was
the very proud father of two sons, Dustin Ray and Adam Wesley.  Buddy’s interests
included farming and raising his thoroughbred race horse, watching every
episode of Matlock, listening to country music, reading Louis Lamour books  and
of course drinking an occasional Coor’s light.  

Buddy was preceded in death by his parents, Bud and Dixie Scott Grant.  

He leaves to mourn his passing; his companion of nearly 20 years, Rene Kasparek
of Hardtner;  sons, Dustin of Salina and Adam of Kiowa; granddaughter, Darrien
Carruthers ; her mother, Paula of Alva; brothers, Sam of Topeka, Rocky of Enid and
David of Hardtner; favorite sister, Nancy Sutton of Woodward; aunts, Hester
Wolgamott of Hardtner, Mildred Blue of McKinney, Texas, aunt and uncle, Ann and
Otch Eshleman of Hardtner, aunt, Betty Scott of El Reno, Oklahoma, along with
numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many friends.  

Funeral service will be Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the United
Methodist Church in Hardtner.  Burial will follow in the Hardtner-Elwood Cemetery.  
Arrangements are by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. of Kiowa, Kansas.  Condolences

Visitation will be Tuesday, February 17, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the
family present to receive friends from 6-8.

Memorials may be made to the Hardtner VFW or the Hardtner Community
Foundation  through the funeral home.
