KIOWA-Elizabeth Leone “Betty” Lieurance passed from this life on May 14, 2009.  Funeral service
will be Saturday, May 16, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Kiowa with Pastor
Wayne Stephens officiating.  Burial will follow in the Riverview Cemetery.  Arrangements are by
Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. of Kiowa, Kansas.  Condolences may be shared with the family at www.

Betty was born on January 11, 1924 in Wellington, Kansas to Thomas Homer and Leona Ann
Weatherly Brattin.  At the age of 2 the family moved to Kiowa.  She attended school in Kiowa
graduating from Kiowa High School in 1942.   During high school she worked at the Sweet Shop
owned by Bud Humphrey.  During WWII she was “Rosie the Riveter” and worked at Boeing in Wichita
on the fuselage of B72’s.  On November 23, 1944 she and Dale Clifton Lieurance were united in
marriage in Wichita. To this union three children were born; Lenora Ann “Lee”, Thomas Raymond
and Dale Kirk.  She worked over 40 years at the First State Bank retiring in 1989.  Besides working
she would help with field work during harvest.  Her love of the outdoors kept her mowing her yard
until she was 83.  When her children were young she was a Brownie, Girl Scout and Cub Scout
leader. She was also a member of Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary and the Kiowa United
Methodist Church.  

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dale; two brothers, Charley and Junior; one
sister, Berniece.  

She is survived by her children; daughter, Lee Humphrey of Wichita; two sons, Tom and wife, Tanis
of Anthony and Kirk of Ft. Morgan, Colorado; one sister, Corrine Rose of Kiowa; nine grandchildren,
Tammi and husband, Chad Ohl, Joel and Jackie Humphrey, Tiffany Lieurance, Ryan and wife, Kelli
Lieurance, Teryn Lieurance, Burt Harshman, Kyle Lieurance, Heath and wife, Lisa Williams, Bobbie
Williams; six great grandchildren, Jonas Humphrey, Hadley Ohl, Little Burt Harshman, Ethan Francis,
McKeegan Francis and Alyson Williams.  

Memorials may be made to the Kiowa United Methodist Church or the Kiowa Manor through the
funeral home.
