| KIOWA-Lauren Jean Merklein, 14, passed away on Sunday, October 25, 2009 at Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. Celebration of Life service will be Friday, October 30, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the South Barber High School Gymnasium with Bud Laubach officiating. Arrangements are by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. of Kiowa, Kansas. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.lanmanmemorials.com Lauren was born on July 11, 1995 at Salina, Kansas to Mitch and Shelly Newton Merklein. She was a freshman student at South Barber High School and was involved in Kays, FFA, choir, band, cheerleading. She attended the Grace Bible Fellowship Church was a member of the Methodist Youth Group. She is survived by her parents; two sisters, Kali, a student at Fort Hays State University and Erin of the home; grandparents, Jake and Mary Anne Newton of Kiowa, Sharon Irvin and husband, Larry, Don Merklein, Kansas; great grandmother, Juanita Lorimer all of Phillipsburg, Kansas. She will also be greatly missed by her six cousins; Robyn ,her son, Trevor, and husband, Casey Whitaker of Kiowa, Candi and husband, Justin Maddux of Rogers, Arkansas, Holly Rooks of Kiowa, Kansas, Heather Shelite of Eudora, Kansas, Heath Shelite of Houston, Texas and Todd Shelite of Kiowa, Kansas, aunts and uncles; Connie and Butch Rooks, Rock and Laurie Shelite all of Kiowa, Kansas, Lisa Newton of Portland, Oregon, Scott and Tami Merklein, Kevin Merklein all of Phillipsburg, Kansas.
