| Helena-Funeral service for Paul Powell, 65, will be Thursday, December 17, 2009 at 1:30 at Lanman Funeral Home Chapel in Helena. Burial will follow at Good Hope Cemetery east and south of Helena with arrangements by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. of Helena. Viewing will be at the funeral home before the service. Memories may be shared with the family at www.lanmanmemorials.com. Paul Powell was born on January 31, 1944 at home two miles north of Helena and ¼ mile west to Frank and Helen Peiler Powell. He went to school in Helena and graduated in May of 1963. He later joined the National Guard in January 1964 and served until January of 1970. He met and married. Dorothy Turman in October of 1968. In 1972 Paul and Dorothy bought acreage from Paul’s parents and put a modular home there. They raised wheat, cattle and hogs. Paul raised Walker and Bluetick hunting dogs. He hunted coons and bobcats for a hobby. In March 1978 they were blessed with a baby girl, Carrie Lea Powell and in March of 1981, a son, Paul Matthew Powell. Paul taught his children how to farm and raise cattle and hogs. He also took his kids coon hunting in the winter. Paul retired in 2006 and moved to town, where he kept a few chickens and calves. Most of his time was spent with his two kids and eight grandkids. Paul left this world December 12, 2009 quietly in his home in Helena. His children will miss him and will always have Paul in their hearts and treasure the memories with him. Those who preceded Paul in death include his parents, Frank and Helen Powell and one sister, Bessie Schallner. Survivors include one son, Paul M. Powell and fiancé, JoEllen Landrum of Woodward; one daughter, Carrie L. Powell of Goltry; four granddaughters, Raven Schlup, Tiffany Schlup, Mary Schlup and Abigail Powell; four grandsons, Preston Schlup, Dylan Schlup, Austin Bradt and Ryan Landrum; two brothers, John Powell, and wife, Verna and Fred Powell, both of Helena; one sister, Juanita Ashworth of Ponca City. Memorials may be given to the funeral home in memory of Paul. |
