Dolores was the first of three children born on November 1, 1932 in Edmond,
Oklahoma to Ralph and Margaret Orr Hood and passed from this life surrounded by
her family on January 1, 2009 at her home in Homestead after a long, tough fight
with emphysema.  She attended school through the eleventh grade.  While
working as a waitress at the Snyder Drive-In Café in Edmond, she met her future
husband, Thomas Root and they were married on May 4, 1952 in Berryville,
Arkansas.  They shared 56 years together.  They moved from Edmond to
Homestead in 1960.  She worked as a waitress at Queen’s Kitchen in Fairview and
later at Pizza Inn in Okeene, retiring in 1997.

Dolores loved her family and displayed that love every day of her life.  She was a
busy homemaker who loved looking after her family.  She often held Sunday and
holiday family gatherings and was extremely proud of her grandchildren and great-
grandchildren.  She enjoyed going to garage sales.

Dolores was baptized in May 1964 at Homestead and was a member of the General
Assembly and Church of the Firstborn.

Survivors include her husband, T. J. of the home; one daughter, Mary Schadler of
Lahoma; three sons, Lynn Root of Homestead, Ronnie Root and wife, Lawana of
Homestead, John Root and wife, Sheila of Enid; two grandchildren they raised as
their own children, Ray Ake and Deanna Stotts; one brother, Elmer Hood and wife,
Cleo of Edmond; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Dolores was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Debbie and one
sister, Jeanie.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Church of the Firstborn.

The casket will be open at the funeral home from 9:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. on
Saturday.
