| KIOWA-Lou Ann Shklar, passed away on Sunday, February 22, 2009 at the Kiowa Hospital District Manor. Funeral service will be Friday, February 27, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Kiowa with Pastor Ken Bowden of the Kiowa Southern Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Riverview Cemetery. Arrangements are by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. of Kiowa, Kansas. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.lanmanmemorials.com Lou Ann was born on September 24, 1930 in Wichita to Willard Pinkston and Olis Land Pinkston. She grew up in Kingman and moved to Kiowa when she was sixteen years old. She met and married the love of her life, Robert “Karl” Shklar on August 17, 1947. To the union four children were born, Karl Michael, Marcia Diane, Steven Mark, and Dana Kim. She raised the children until they were old enough to stay by themselves and started working at the Kiowa District Hospital for about 2 years as a nurse’s aide and retired after 28 years as an x-ray/lab tech. By example Lou Ann left her children with strong work ethics. She was a member of the Kiowa Southern Baptist Church where she was very strong in her religious faith and brought her children up as Christians. She had a very giving nature. She loved to sit on the porch and watch the birds and the trees in her yard grow. She was preceded in death by her parents; step father, Burt Cole, her husband; three brothers, Rex, Dale and an infant; two sisters, Edna Clair and Marilyn. She is survived by her children; Karl Michael Shklar and wife, Jonna of Lawton, Oklahoma, Marcia Cantrell and husband, Howard of Kiowa, Kansas, Steven Shklar and wife, Debbie of Owasso, Oklahoma, Dana Hope and husband, Wesley of Waynoka, Oklahoma;11 grandchildren, Tonya Burns and husband, Mark, Michael Shklar and wife, Sherry, Matthew Cantrell and wife, Jenny, Darcy Olsen and husband, Tim, Jacee Tice and husband, Micah, Bridgett Ball and husband, Brian, Mandy Shklar, Jamie Shklar, Gabriel Hope and wife, Brook, Joshua Hope, Haley Hope;15 great-grandchildren, Juliann Davenport, Mary, Austin and Cody Shklar, Tanner and Tayden Hope, Lexi and Alyssa Ball, Grant, Gage, Grace and Garen Cantrell, Regan and Shklar Olsen and Henry Tice; one brother, Everett Pinkston; one sister, Wyonna Doty, numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation will be Thursday, February 26, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family present to receive friends from 6-8.
