Cherokee-Funeral service for George Alton Trotter will be Friday, March 20, 2009
at 10:30 A.M. at the Friends Church in Cherokee with Rev. Ken Keeling and Rev.
Robert Kirkpatrick officiating.  Burial will follow at Cherokee Municipal Cemetery
with arrangements by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. of Cherokee.    Viewing will be
Thursday from 9:00 A.M. until 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home and after the service at

George Alton Trotter was born the sixth child of George Trotter and Lucy Orpha
Smith Trotter on September 12, 1913 in Byron and passed from this life on March
17, 2009 in Wakita.  Alton started to school in Byron and finished grade and high
school at Driftwood in 1933.  In the spring of 1934, Alton met Goldie Bertha Hay,
and they were married July 4, 1937 in Cherokee.  They established their home in
Driftwood as Alton was working for A. J. Oblander in his service station from 1937
to 1943.  Alton served in the U.S. Army from January 13, 1943 until February 12,
1946, seven months of which were spent overseas.  In 1946 they moved to
Cherokee where Alton worked for Henry Oakley as a mechanic for ten years. He
then worked for the City of Cherokee for eighteen years as city mechanic and was
a Cherokee firefighter. Goldie Trotter passed away October 28, 1969.   Then,in 1976
Alton and Claudia Daniels Tucker were married in Amorita.   Alton attended
Cherokee Friends Church.  His hobbies were amateur ham radio, hunting and
fishing.


Alton is survived by his daughter, Carole Grover and husband, Ed of Byron;
grandchildren, Barry Grover of New Albany, Indiana and Staci Wienecke and
husband, Matthew of Columbia, South Carolina; great grandchildren, Calli (Grover)
Erickson and husband, Paul, Whitney Grover, Chandler and Colton Wienecke;
Trotter nieces and nephews; Tucker nieces and nephews; Daniels nieces and
nephews and Paula Huff, his beloved care-taker.  

He was preceded in death by his wives, Goldie and Claudia.

Memorials may be given to the Cherokee Friends Church or the Wakita Community
Health Center through the funeral home.
