sweet, delightful lady!  I regret not being able to attend her memorial service.  My thought and prayers

Funeral service for Mildred E. Riecker Veatch of Jet will be Saturday, May 16 at 2:
00 P.M.at Nash Christian Church with Pastor Dan O’Daniel officiating.  Burial will be
at 3:30 P.M. in the Capron Cemetery with arrangements by Lanman Funeral Home,
Inc. of Cherokee.  Viewing will Friday at the funeral home from 9:00 A.M. until 7:00 P.
M. with the family present from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M.  Memories may be shared with

Mildred was born on June 12, 1913 south of Capron to Charles George and Mary
Whilimena Endman Riecker and died May 13, 2009 at St. Mary’s Regional Medical
Center in Enid.  She was raised in Capron and graduated from Capron High
School.  Mildred was a switchboard operator for the Capron Telephone Company
until she married Howard Veatch on July 13, 1933 in Capron.  They raised their
family and farmed the Veatch Centennial Family Farm between Capron and
Burlington.  In 2001 Mildred moved to the Jet Community, and then in 2007 she
moved to Cherokee Manor.  Mildred’s entire life was devoted to serving her Lord
and Savior Jesus Christ.  This was reflected through her continual service to her
church and the study of the scriptures.  When there was a function at the church,
Mildred was there to serve in any and all capacities.  With her husband, Howard,
Mildred also served as a substitute parent to many brothers, sisters, nieces,
nephews, cousins.  Their door was always open to anyone who needed a place to
stay and a wonderful hot meal.  Mildred was a devoted Granny to eight
grandchildren, and sixteen great grandchildren.  Granny’s homemade noodles,
cookies, pies and crocheted afghans will be life-long treasured memories.  

Surviving are her children, Fred and Sandra Veatch of Newkirk, Mary Etta and
Dean Campbell of Jet; her sister, Luella Leatherman of Clearwater, Kansas; eight
grandchildren, Kyle Campbell, Troy Campbell, Kurt Campbell, Dana Ann Veatch,
Michele Huston, Mary Alice Morency, Mark Longoria, Matthew Longoria and
sixteen great grandchildren.

Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Howard; son, Ronald Howard;
daughter, Barbara Lee; sisters, Ethel Stevens, Mary McKinney and brother, Marion
Riecker.

Memorials may be given to the Nash Christian Church, the Burlington Christian
Church or charity of the donor’s choice through the funeral home.
