Charles was born to August Charles and Artie Asenith Burkey Wiedman on March
17, 1922 in Guymon, Oklahoma.  Charles lived most of his life in Kiowa and those
were his happiest days.  He went to grade school at the Mulberry Center country
school near Kiowa and graduated from Kiowa High School in 1939.  After high
school he attended college at the College of Emporia and completed a machinest
course in Wichita Kansas prior to being drafted into the army.  He intended to be a
doctor and after being drafted was a medic and surgery tech for the Army’s 103rd
division.  He was a prisoner or war captured in the battle of the Ardennes, at
Selestate France on December 3, 1944.  He was freed in May of 1945.  Charles
returned to Kiowa after the war and worked at many trades during his lifetime.  On
July 1, 1950 he and Nola Yvonne Scott were united in marriage.  He was best
known as a welder and machinist and is known for making the major modifications
on Speed Movers as well as being known for fixing the unfixable.  He also
designed and operated a terracing machine and rebuilt many terraces in Barber
county. Charles built a number of metal buildings and barns around the Kiowa
area.  Charles was also known for his love of hunting and fishing and his bird
dogs.  He did gun repairs and loaded many rifle rounds for friends and family
around the area.  He was happiest either in a tree stand, in a fishing boat, or telling
jokes at the coffee shop.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Bill in 2007.

He is survived by his wife, Nola of 59 years; one daughter, Becky Cole and
husband, George of Cherokee, Oklahoma; two sisters, Florence Blake of Dallas,
Texas and Peggy Wiedman Casper of Omaha, Nebraska, many niece, nephews and
friends.
