He is survived by his wife, Ruby of Jet; daughter, Valerie Rovins and husband, Mike of Searsdale, New York; stepson, Don Smith and wife, Julie of Newalla, Oklahoma; granddaughter, Danielle Rovins; grandson, Sam Rovins; sister, Billye Youngblood of Atlanta, Georgia, as well as cousins, nieces, nephews and many good friends. Though not related by blood, Dr. Mike Scott and his entire family were family of the spirit to J.D. and Ruby. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Lenna Kiser; brother, Frank Jr. and daughter, Jerri Patrice. J.D. was born in Holdenville, Oklahoma on June 8, 1937. He was always an outdoorsman and as a boy, loved playing football. He entered the United States Navy on July 22, 1954 and was trained as a meteorologist. He served his country honorably until 1974. After retiring from the Navy, J.D. was a long haul truck driver. He met Ruby Smith, who worked in the freight business in Oklahoma City, and married her on February 14, 1978. After retirement, they settled in Jet, Oklahoma, where he lived until his death. He loved the outdoors and vigorous outdoor pursuits. He was a skilled hunter with rifle and bow, an accomplished angler, plus a dare devil on his four wheeler and anything else with a motor. J.D. was fiercely independent and his own man. He loved his wife and his dogs with all of his heart as well as his family and friends. He was plain-spoken and generous to a fault. In lieu of flowers the family request donation to the Jet Volunteer Fire Department through the funeral home. They are a very special organization and have assisted the family often during the years of J.D.’s illness. |
