Funeral service for Maxine Meeks, 88, will be Thursday, August 25, 2011 at 2:00 p.m., First Christian Church, Cherokee with Dr. Ron Hansen officiating. Viewing – Tuesday 1:00 – 5:00, Wednesday 10:00 – 8:00, with family 6:00 – 8:00.
Maxine was born on August 3, 1923 in rural Cherokee and passed from this life on August 20, 2011 in Cherokee. Her parents were Orville and Luella Storey Siler. She went to Stella country school. She married Gilbert Meeks on March 4, 1948, and they were married 63 years. She was a resident of this area all of her life. She was a member of First Christian Church in Cherokee from an early age. She was a former president of the Republican Party.
Survivors include her husband, Gilbert of Cherokee; her daughter, Marva Fallis Stewart and husband, Robert of Nescatunga; daughter-in-law, Mae Meeks of McPherson, Kansas; brothers, Jim Siler and wife, Ann of Cherokee, Don Siler and wife, Peggy of Cherokee; four grandchildren, Jackie Koehn of McPherson, Kansas, Kim Miller of McPherson, Kansas, Sarah Thomas of Tulsa, Aaron Fallis of Alva; twelve great grandchildren.
Those who preceded Maxine in death include her parents; son, Vernon Meeks; sister, Merle Shelton; four brothers, Harold, Robert, Charles and Richard.
Memorials may be given to the First Christian Church or Cherokee Manor Activity Fund through the funeral home.
