Funeral service for Michael Glenn Thomas, 65, will be Sunday, August 14, 2011 at 3:00 P.M. at the United Methodist Church in Medicine Lodge, Kansas with Pastor Dale Thiele officiating. Burial will follow at The Ranch. Arrangements are by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc of Kiowa, Kansas. Viewing at the funeral home in Kiowa will be Saturday from 1:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M.
Mike was born January 10, 1946 in Medicine Lodge, Kansas to parents Glenn S. and Mary Alice Forsyth Thomas. He passed from this life on August 12, 2011 at Medicine Lodge Hospital. He graduated from Medicine Lodge High School in 1964 and had been a resident of Medicine Lodge all of his life. He worked as the Barber County Commissioner for the last seven years and was also self-employed. He was a member of the K-Camp Board in Topeka since January 2009. He had worked on the Barber County Fire Department Station #1 for twenty-four years. Mike married Shirley A. Gentry on September 25, 1989 in Medicine Lodge.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley; three children, Glenis Thomas of Blackwell, Oklahoma, Margaret Fowler and husband, Randy of Ponca City, Oklahoma, Kyle Michael Thomas and wife, Shannon of Medicine Lodge, Kansas; two stepsons, Thomas Arnold and wife, Regina of Cheney, Kansas and Mark G. Arnold of Nickerson, Kansas; one sister, Patsy J. Snyder and husband, Thomas of Wichita, Kansas; five grandsons, Drew McAllister of Blackwell, Oklahoma, Michael Hommertzhein of Waynoka, Oklahoma, Kendall and Cory Waite of Ponca City, Oklahoma, Tell Marshall Thomas of Medicine Lodge, Kansas; three granddaughters, Kayla Ann Arnold of Medicine Lodge, Kansas, MeCate Ashton and Rietta Brooke Thomas of Medicine Lodge, Kansas; three step-grandsons, Jerry Arnold of Senatobia, Mississippi and Johnathon Alred of Batesville, Mississippi, Peyton Fowler of Ponca City, Oklahoma; one great grandson, Lydon Michael Hommertzhein of Waynoka, Oklahoma; two nieces, Amy Snyder of Wichita, Kansas, Becky Simon and husband, Bru ce of Sedgwick, Kansas and one great niece, Alison Simon of Sedgwick, Kansas.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Mary Alice Thomas and his mother-in-law, Norma L. Price.
Memorials may be given to the Barber County Rural Fire Department Station #1 of Medicine Lodge, Kansas through the funeral home.
