HARDTNER-Chonita K. Sternberger passed away on January 17, 2012 at Southwind Hospice in Pratt.  Graveside service will be Friday, January 20, 2012 at 1:00p.m. at Hardtner-Elwood Cemetery. 

Chonita was born on May 8, 1939 in Hardtner, Kansas to Archie and Kathryn Piersall McCune.   She graduated from Hardtner High School.  On July 31, 1957 she and Leon “Rusty” Sternberger were united in marriage and made their home in Hardtner, to this union three sons were born; Tony Lee, Thomas Alan, Tracy Leon. She owned a clothing store in Alva, Oklahoma and Kiowa, Kansas.  She worked as the city clerk in Hardtner and retired in 2011.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Rusty.

She is survived by her three sons; Tony Lee Sternberger  of Heber Springs, Arkansas, Thomas Alan Sternberger and wife, Sherrie of Wichita, Kansas, Tracy Leon Sternberger of Burrton, Kansas; two grandchildren, Justin S. Sternberger and wife, Kate, Sarah N. Tully; one great grandson, Jesse Sternberger; two sisters, Sandra Blubaugh and husband, Dennis of Wichita, Kansas, Connie Eisenhour and husband, Doug of Stafford; two brothers, John McCune and wife, Anita of Wichita, Kansas, Terry McCune and wife, Yvonne of Macksville.

There will be no viewing.  In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to Southwind Hospice, donations may be sent to the funeral home.
