David Young

David Eugene Young

January 19, 1935  -  May 2, 2018

David Eugene Young was called home by his noble Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on May 2, 2018.  He was born on January 19, 1935 to Earl and Maud Wethington Young.  David grew up on the family farm which his grandfather had settled during the Cherokee Strip land run.  As a child he and his brothers and sister attended primary school by walking to the little one room country school houses that were located nearby.  He graduated from Goltry High School in 1953.  David furthered his education at Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in mathematics and physics.  After serving in the U.S. Army in the Panama Canal Zone, he was later employed by IBM as a computer programmer for thirty-two years until he retired in 1994.  During the Vietnam War he spent time with IBM stationed in Thailand near the Cambodian border, processing reconnaissance data for the American military.  The time David spent in Thailand was very dear to him, giving him much compassion for the situations so many of them were enduring.  He returned to the U.S. and worked for IBM in various cities around the country.  He always joked that IBM really stood for ‘I Been Moved.’  After his retirement David returned to Oklahoma and lived in the Lake Tenkiller area for several years.  David enjoyed fishing, playing golf and woodworking.  He volunteered at the Blackgum Fire Department as a first responder and was very active in their events.  David was always a humble man and enjoyed volunteering anywhere he could be of help.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Bruce Breshears of Cashion; granddaughters, Bridget and Suzanne Breshears of Cashion; his brother, Donald Young of McCune, Kansas; his sister, Evelyn Pecha of Parsons, Kansas and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

A graveside service for David will be Monday, May 7, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Timberlake Cemetery north and east of Helena.  Arrangements are by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. of Helena.  Viewing will be Monday from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  www.lanmanmemorials.com  Facebook:  Lanman Funeral Home Inc.
