Reverend Chleo Orville Brown

March 17 1936 – July 13 2018

Rev. Chleo Brown was born on March 17, 1936 to Velda Lutes and Teddy Brown in Canon City, Colorado.  He was the third of three boys with his older brothers being Vernon and Thurman (TC).  Chleo spent much of his childhood in Salida, Colorado and later in Colorado Springs, Colorado.  In 1952 Chleo joined the Air Force and spent four years as an airplane hydraulic mechanic.  After his time in the Air Force he settled in Colorado Springs and met his future wife, Patricia Gray.  They were married April 26 1958 and recently celebrated 60 years of marriage.  They were blessed to have three children, Charles, who tragically died at the age of twelve, Michael, and Lisa.  They have five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.  As a young father, Chleo was active with the Boy Scouts of America, having earned numerous leadership awards for his service as a Scout Master and Troop Leader.

Prior to becoming a Christian and eventually entering into the ministry, Rev. Brown spent many years as a roofing contractor working in Colorado and Oregon.  After he became an ordained minister and full-time pastor, he occasionally did roofing jobs as time would allow until late in his 70’s.  In fact, just four months ago, he helped with a small repair for a neighbor’s roof.  More recently, Chleo assisted Cleo Springs School district as a bus driver, custodian, and maintenance worker.

After Rev. Brown answered God’s call to become a minister, he attended the Nazarene Bible College in Colorado Springs in 1978.  His first church took him and his family to Carrington, North Dakota in 1980 and was ordained as a Pastor in the Church of the Nazarene.  Chleo was a faithful servant to God and helped build His kingdom in a mighty way.  During his tenure as a pastor, Rev. Brown pastored twelve churches throughout the mid-west including, Illinois, Texas, Oklahoma and North Dakota.  Chleo recorded sermons and devotionals for broadcast on radio and television, and for many years, Chleo also authored a weekly devotional entitled “The Pastor’s Desk” in which he ministered far and wide.  He worked with the Billy Graham crusades providing follow-up ministry to those who made a decision for Christ.  At the time of his death, Reverend Chleo Brown was serving as the Pastor for the Coleman Chapel Church of the Nazarene in Calumet, Oklahoma and faithfully recorded 41 years as a Pastor in the Church of the Nazarene.

Rev. Brown’s education includes an Associates Degree from El Paso State College, a Bachelor’s Degree from Mid-America Nazarene University and a Ministerial Degree from the Nazarene Bible College.

Chleo is survived by his wife, Patricia; his son, Michael; his daughter, Lisa; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother; father; two brothers and his oldest son, Charles.

Funeral services will be held at the Cleo Springs Church of the Nazarene on Friday, July 20, 2018 at 11:00 a.m.  Burial will follow at Good Hope Cemetery south of Helena with arrangements by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. of Helena.  Viewing will be at the church only.  www.lanmanmemorials.com  Facebook: Lanman Funeral Home Inc.
