Charles Edward Fesmire

November 12, 1950  -  October 24, 2018

The journey of life on this earth began on November 12, 1950, in Corpus Christi, Texas for Charles Edward Fesmire, son of Bennie and Bernice Fesmire.  Charles entered this world surrounded by two older brothers, Wayne Fesmire and Jimmy Fesmire, along with grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

His journey changed when his mother and brothers relocated to Hammon, Oklahoma where Charles spent his entire childhood and teenage years.  He became very close to his “Pa”, Logan Foster, and even insisted that he be called Pa by his grandchildren.  He loved playing baseball and basketball and enjoyed his wood shop and agriculture classes.  It was during this time that he began to develop his love for farming.  From planting his own garden and selling or giving away the produce to working for a local farmer during the summer months, his joy was sitting on a tractor or a combine. Even when the disease of neuropathy began to rob him of the use of his legs and he could no longer climb the steps of the tractor, he loved just driving to the fields to watch the growth of the wheat or check on the cattle.

After graduating from Hammon High School, his journey included college at Southwestern State College (now Southwestern Oklahoma State University) where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. During this time in his life, he married Deborah Hubbard, and together along with their three children, Stephanie, Damon, and Scott, they began a life together as school teachers.  Charles’s career began at Woodsboro High School, Woodsboro, Texas, and ended at Timberlake High School, Helena, Oklahoma where he spent a total of thirty years educating youth.

Charles loved competition.  Whether it was his TSA students competing at the state or national level or his own children’s activities, he strived for the best.  No time in his life was he any happier than when his children and grandchildren were in the show ring with their steers, heifers, hogs, or lambs.  To take a piece of wood or a calf and turn each one into a winning project was a joy.  But he taught them that the price of winning included hard work.  Regardless of what they chose to do or was expected of them, he expected it to be done well.  This legacy follows his children today.

His life was his children and grandchildren.  Even though his life was short with the younger grandchildren, what time he spent with them will be ingrained in their hearts and minds forever.

His journey on this earth ended on October 24, 2018.  He left behind his wife, Deborah; his daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Troy Shepard; his son and daughter-in-law, Damon and Darcey Fesmire; his son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Heidi Fesmire; his grandchildren, Joshua Shepard and his fiancé, Kristin Taylor and their soon to be daughter, Taylor Elizabeth Shepard, Michael Shepard, Darla Fesmire, Daylyn Fesmire, Bethany Fesmire, Ella Fesmire, Augustus Fesmire; his brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Beverly Fesmire; his brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Linda Hubbard and Richard and Sharon Herrington, along with many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Wayne Fesmire and his granddaughter, Kristen Shepard.  He left this world surrounded by his family only to join his beloved granddaughter, Kristen.
