Michael Lee Hassler was born in Lafayette, Indiana on September 26, 1948 to parents Mitchell “Gene” Hassler and Mary Allegra Fiscus Hassler.  Michael enlisted in the United States Air Force (USAF) in September 1967 as an Operations Manager while serving his first assignment at the 10th Airborne Command and Control Squadron 513th.  Shortly after enlisting, he was sent to Vietnam and served one tour.  Michael’s next duty station was at Vance Air Force Base (AFB) in Enid, Oklahoma.  While at Vance, he met his first wife.  He and Joyce Walker were married August 22, 1971 in Helena, Oklahoma and they had one son, Mitchell Gene Hassler II. After working in Operations for ten years, he was accepted into Boom Operator School at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio.  His first assignment as a Boom Operator was at the 305th Air Refueling Squadron at Grissom Air Force Base, Indiana.   In his ten years as a Boom Operator, he refueled every aircraft in the USAF inventory.  While enlisted in USAF, he furthered his education by first receiving his Associates Degree in Resource Management from the Community College of the Air Force.  Then he completed his Bachelor of Science Degree while attending Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, United Kingdom Extension.  Finally, he graduated with a Master of Science Degree in Industrial Technology at Indiana State University.  He achieved the rank of Master Sergeant and received numerous commendations; namely, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal with Three Oak Leaves, and the Air Force Achievement Medal.  He also received other citations, awards and medals.  He was honorably discharged and retired from the U. S. Air Force at Grissom AFB, Indiana effective October 1, 1987.  After his retirement from the USAF Michael became a Tool Designer at Delta Faucet Company and retired February 13, 2009.  Michael was a very involved member of Gideon’s International and Community Bible Church.  On June 6, 2015 Michael and Kathy Lewis were married and continued to make their home in Enid.

He is preceded in death by his first wife, Joyce Ann Walker Hassler; his parents, Mitchell “Gene” Hassler and Mary Allegra Fiscus Hassler.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Kathy Hassler; one sister, Brenda Jo Moore and husband, Lynn; brother-in-law, Ray “Toby” Walker; children, Mitchell Gene Hassler II and wife, Sequoia, Larry and Gina Lewis, Connie and Scott Vos, Donna and Christopher Dodds; grandchildren, Persaias, Dakota, Hunter, K’dyn, Elizabeth, Andrew and Felicia, Eric and Jocelyn, Megan and Brandon; great-granddaughter, Adalyn; great-grandson, Grayson; other relatives and friends.
