Phyllis Erline Farney was born December 5, 1923 in Cherokee to Earl William and Olive Tree West McDowell.  She attended school in Cherokee, graduating in 1941.  She worked for her father in the Cherokee Creamery.  After attending college at Northwestern State University in Alva, she went to work at Boeing in Wichita, Kansas during World War II.  After returning to Cherokee she worked for TG&Y, J.C. Penney, and Rupe Drugstore.  She married Aaron Farney on November 1, 1953 in the Cherokee Christian Church.  She was a member of Cherokee First Christian Church and a charter member of Alfalfa County Hospital Volunteers.  She was a band mother for Cherokee Junior High and High School band.

Phyllis is survived by Danny Farney and wife, Stacey and granddaughter, Remington of the home in Burlington; granddaughter, Diana Hamilton and husband, Ryan and great grandkids, Ethan and Brooklyn of Waukomis; granddaughter, Kandice Moody and great grandsons, Cameron and Scott of Waukomis; granddaughter, Kelcie Judd and husband, Jeremy and great grandkids, Terek and Anastasia of Alva; one brother, Ralph Lynn McDowell and wife, Jean of Dallas, Texas; one nephew, Robert McDowell and wife, Sallye and daughter, Megan of Plano, Texas; one niece, Patricia Meechum and husband, Charles and two sons, Owen and Hollis all of McKinney, Texas; many other, nieces; nephews; cousins, and friends.

Those who preceded her in death include her husband, Aaron; her sons, Timothy and Stephen, and her parents, Earl and Olive McDowell.

Funeral service for Phyllis will be Saturday, October 24, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at Cherokee Christian Church.  Burial will be at Apostolic Cemetery near Burlington with arrangements by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. of Cherokee.  Viewing will be Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. with family present from 5:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.  www.lanmanmemorials.com  Facebook: Lanman Funeral Home, Inc.

Memorials may be given to Burlington Fire Department or Cherokee First Christian Church through the funeral home.
