Rose Marie Ferda was born October 17, 1931 in Kansas City, Missouri and was raised by her grandparents, Gilbert and Polly Cullop.  She had lived in the Wakita area most of her life, except where she lived as a military wife.  She graduated from Wakita High School and worked for Montgomery Ward in Wichita, Kansas until 1951 when she and Everett Ferda were married.  Everett was in the service and had been assigned to Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland so that became their temporary home.  After one year, Everett was assigned to Germany so Rose moved back to Wichita where their first daughter, Debra Ann, was born.  Everett was discharged in 1953 and they moved to the farm near Wakita where they lived to this day.  It was at the farm where their second daughter, Shirley Arleen, was born.  Over the years, they remained close to their Army friends visiting them often.

Rose was a member of Wakita United Methodist Church and a member of Wakita United Methodist Women.  She had also belonged to Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.  She was a wonderful cook who was known for making the best fried chicken in a cast iron skillet.  She did many other things in her busy life such as sewing, gardening, canning, cooking for hired hands and hauling wheat.  She also milked cows and did other farmhand jobs.  Rose did not like camping due to eating in the harvest fields so frequently.  She sold milk and eggs in town for grocery money and made enough to feed her family for a month.  Before going to town, she had to “dress up” the family.  She especially liked being sponsor on her children’s school trips.

Those who have preceded her in death are her husband, Everett Ferda; her birth mother, Nora Ransford; her adoptive grandparents, Gilbert and Polly Ann Cullop; her brother, Jim Ransford and sister, Deanna Robertson.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Debra Martin and husband, Jerry of Denton, Texas and Shirley McCurry and husband, Mike of Ponca City; grandchildren,  Katrina Klein and husband, Aaron, Miranda Patterson and husband, Aaron and Wesley Glenn McCurry and wife, Brooke; eight great grandchildren, Hunter Lee Klein, Jacob William Klein, Aiden Michael Maurice Patterson, Avery Rose McCurry, Jillian Ruth McCurry, Ashton Turner Lee Patterson, William Everett Patterson and Maddox Clayton Patterson; one brother, Don Ransford; one sister, Helen Isham.

Memorials may be made to Wakita Community Health Center or Hospice Circle of Love through the funeral home.
