Vereta Mcbride

May 4, 1931 — November 18, 2021

Aline

Vereta Green was born May 4, 1931 to parents, Hugh and Mabel Green in Alfalfa County, Oklahoma. Vereta grew up on the family farm in Carmen, Oklahoma with her brothers, Leland, Vencil, and sister, Donna.

Vereta attended school at West Clay, Lambert and then graduated from Carmen in 1948. After graduation Vereta worked at the Carmen Bank, which she really enjoyed and always talked about in later years.  On April 14, 1955, Vereta married the love of her life, Max McBride from Aline. They moved out to “the ranch” and began their legacy.

Vereta was very involved in organizations and politics, helping several times campaigning for some of  Hugh’s colleagues. Vereta was also one of the original “Bellman Belles” and she was a member of multiple organizations such as Home Demonstration Club, FFA Mothers Club, Women’s Republican Club of Oklahoma, and she served as President of the Home Welfare Club.

If you knew Vereta, you knew she was all about “Family” as she was the glue to many family gatherings, making sure everyone felt welcome and everyone was fed. Vereta opened her home to so many relatives as a place to stay over the years and always made sure her home was a safe, welcoming place to be. A note written by Vereta actually found on her bulletin board this week said “My family is my life!”

Vereta and Max had two children, Paula and Marty. Her life revolved around them and she absolutely loved attending all the athletic contests and stock shows they were in. When grandchildren came along, she was really in her element. Vereta was a loving person, but one better not mess with the grandkids, unless you wanted to hear from Vereta! She attended thousands of events over the years, especially basketball, baseball and softball games. Wherever they were, she was there. This went hand in hand with something else she loved to do with Max, and that was traveling. Vereta and Max traveled all over the United States and the world, and she loved seeing and experiencing new things. They went on countless cruises, attended  every National Finals Rodeo for many years, and pulled travel trailers across the country. One of her favorite lifetime traveling memories was when she and Max took the entire family on a cruise trip through Alaska.

Vereta is survived by her husband, Max of Aline; her brother, Vencil Green and wife, Loreta of Carmen; her daughter, Paula Baker and husband, Kenneth of Aline; her son, Marty McBride and wife, Colette of Stillwater; grandchildren, Kyle Baker and wife, Melanye of Ringwood, Kory Baker and wife, Maggie of Ringwood, Brittany Johnson and husband, Van of Balko, Bethany Lanie and husband, Trent of Wakita, Bailey Sneed and husband, Trey of Stillwater, and Caleb McBride of Tulsa; great grandchildren include Aaron Baker, Hayden Baker, Eli Baker, Anna Baker, and Nora Baker of Ringwood, Zayden Lanie and Hattie Lanie of Wakita, and Zoey Sneed of Stillwater, as well as many nieces and nephews whom she adored.

The McBride family would like to thank the many, many loving caregivers who gave Vereta so much care and comfort over the years. Mary, Dalia and Jaime seemed to have a special place in Vereta’s heart

In continuance of Vereta’s caring personality, she always wanted a special viewing structure to be built for future generations of families to be used and enjoyed at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Aline. The family requests memorials be made to Pleasant Ridge Cemetery through the funeral home, and the family will see that it is completed in remembrance of Vereta.
